Upgraded Double Slip Joint for Trophy Trucks & 6100 Race Trucks

Article, Performance Upgrades, Tech Talk
Posted by : Jim Reel / On : October 23, 2026

JE Reel Drivelines and Tube Works developed an improved double slip joint to solve grease loss, spline wear, galling, and driveline binding in high-travel trophy trucks and 6100 race trucks. The system is available exclusively through JE Reel Drivelines.

The Problem

Standard double slip joints are difficult to grease. Teams often have to force grease along the splines with an extension tube, but suspension movement and shaft rotation push that grease into the hollow driveshaft tube instead of keeping it on the spline surfaces.

Once grease leaves the joint, the Glide Coat wears away. That can lead to spline galling, excessive slop, binding, and in severe cases, components freezing together and damaging an underdrive or pinion.

The JE Reel Solution

This upgraded double slip joint uses 5-axis machined grease ports to provide accessible lubrication to both the front and rear spline barrel sections.

Its patent-pending internal accumulator works like a shock for grease. As the slip joint telescopes in and out, the accumulator pushes grease back into the female barrel instead of allowing it to centrifuge into the driveshaft tube. The result is continuous spline lubrication and improved grease recovery.

Built for Extreme Racing Conditions

Trophy trucks and 6100 trucks run more than 2 feet of rear wheel travel, high horsepower, and extreme torque. When the suspension drops out, the slip joint extends; when the tire hits a bump, it is forced back together.

If the joint binds, that load transfers into the differential and transmission. JE Reel and Tube Works identify this as a contributor to excessive pinion nose-bearing wear and underdrive thrust-bearing wear—especially on trucks with 2–3 inches or more of driveshaft slip.

Key Benefits

  • Accessible grease fittings for both spline barrel sections

  • Patent-pending accumulator helps recover and retain grease

  • Reduces Glide Coat wear, spline galling, and binding

  • Helps protect pinion bearings, underdrives, and transmissions

  • Designed for high-travel trophy trucks and 6100 race trucks

  • Tested for a year with multiple race teams

  • Testing showed at least a 100% improvement in Glide Coat lifespan and slip-joint reliability.

Exclusive to JE Reel

This double slip joint assembly is available only through JE Reel Drivelines. JE Reel builds and spin-balances driveshafts on equipment capable of nearly 8,000 RPM, supporting high-performance racing applications.

All new JE Reel double slip joints will come with this upgraded system.
